Photo from little house of horrors

Chillingham Castle is an exciting search since I am into these types of things. The castle is known to be haunted and is now a tourist attraction in England. Explore a few medieval torture chambers and the ghostly apparitions that still haunt the grounds.

Chillingham Castle was used as a monastery, and it was home to the Grey family in 1246. In the coming years, this place was used for war, torture, and death. King Edward I, in 1298, used it as accommodation while he was on his way to fight against William “Braveheart” Wallace. The castle sits in an important location between the England and Scotland borders. Chillingham Castle was used as a checkpoint due to the Scottish not wanting to be part of England. The Scottish Army would attack the castle on several occasions.

The walls were 10 feet (3.5mm) thick, and the castle was so important that they would improve on it non-stop to ensure that it would never fall. The owners were the Grey and Bennet family; no less than eighteen members belonged to the most noble order of the garter. The family was noble but rebellious. Eight family members were hanged, drowned, and quartered with their heads placed on the city gate as a warning. Some were lucky and only lost their heads. The war was finally over in 1346, which is when the castle lost its defensive task. The castle was remodeled, and a forest was built around the place, and that is where the Chillingham wild are kept.
